Gender-Affirming
Hormone Care Planning

Hormone Readiness Assessments, also called Hormone Care Planning, are conversations we have together to decide if you are ready to begin hormone therapy to alter secondary sex characteristics.

I have training and experience supporting gender-diverse adults.

The goal for these assessments is not to gatekeep or evaluate if an individual is “trans enough.” Rather, they are a space to explore gender, hormone therapy, and questions and concerns connected to these topics with a supportive professional. They are also an opportunity for me to help clients navigate medical barriers to care, for example, by providing them with a letter of support they can bring to their prescribing doctor.

What does this accomplish?

I use the guidelines from the gold standard of care, the World Professional Association for Transgender Health Standards of Care for Transgender and Gender Diverse People, Version 8. You can read it for yourself here.

The criteria for the assessment are as follows:

  • Gender incongruence that is marked and sustained;

  • Capacity to consent for gender-affirming hormone therapy;

  • Mental health and physical conditions that could negatively impact the outcome of treatment have been assessed, with risks and benefits discussed;

  • Effect of gender-affirming hormone intervention on reproduction is understood and fertility preservation options have been explored, if relevant

If finances are a barrier to you receiving care, please get in touch with me to discuss sliding scale options. These are available on a case-by-case basis.
